You Hath He Quickened

Scripture Passage: 
Ephesians 2:1-7

Introduction:  The old saying says, “if it aint broke, don’t fix it”.  In dealing with mankind it did not take long for all of it to be broken.  Man fell and in so doing his spirit died.  As usual the Lord is in the business of cleaning up after the failures of man and Ephesians 2 begins by telling us of a great work of God based upon a great failure of man.

  1. QUICK DEFINED 
    1. In a Speedy Manner (Genesis 27:20; Numbers 16:46; Deuteronomy 9:12)
    2. Alive, living or made alive
      1. John 5:21
        1. the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them;
        2. even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.
      2. Acts 10:42
        1. Judge of quick
        2. and dead
      3. Romans 4:17
        1. even God, who quickeneth the dead,
        2. and calleth those things which be not as though they were
      4. Romans 8:11
        1. he that raised up Christ from the dead
        2. shall also quicken your mortal bodies

  2. THE NEED FOR QUICKENING (Ephesians 2:1-3)
    1. Dead in Trespasses and Sins (Ephesians 2:1)

        1. The Lord warned of their immediate death upon disobedience (Genesis 2:16-17)
        2. The attack of the serpent (Genesis 3:1-5)
        3. The offence committed (Genesis 3:6-8)
          1. The partaking of the fruit (Genesis 3:6)
          2. The knowledge of their nakedness (Genesis 3:7)
          3. Their unacceptable nature before God (Genesis 3:8)
      2. Occurring in us
        1. The Apostle Paul had a time of life before the commandment came (Romans 7:9).
        2. The knowledge of sin came by the law (Romans 7:7)
        3. The light of the commandment brought death to Paul (Romans 7:9)
    2. Not Our Own (Ephesians 2:2-3)
      1. Our walk (Ephesians 2:2)
        1. Our walk was controlled by the course of this world
        2. Our walk was according to the prince of the power of the air
      2. Our conversation (Ephesians 2:3)
        1. Among the children of disobedience
        2. Had in the lusts of our flesh
        3. Fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind

  3. THE ACT OF OUR QUICKENING (Ephesians 2:4-7)
    1. Based on His Mercy and Love (Ephesians 2:4)
      1. The character of God
        1. Who is rich in mercy
        2. For His great love
      2. The time of this favor (Ephesians 2:4-5)
