Suffer Children to Come unto Me - Matthew 19:14

Suffer Children to Come unto Me - Matthew 19:14

INTRODUCTION

The Lord Jesus is the King of kings and Lord of lords; yet, in His earthly ministry, He made it clear that He cared for the "little ones" (Matthew 18:6, 10, 14). Perhaps the disciples thought the Master would be too busy or too important to have time for children, but the Lord rebuked them for their error. The Lord loved children and wanted them to come to Him. It grieved Him to think that His disciples would forbid any child from coming to Him. Even now, the Lord wants little children to come to Him, and as they desire to come to Him, no disciple should ever forbid them. The Bible further admonishes young people to remember their Creator in the days of their youth (Ecclesiastes 12:1).

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS

  • (For smaller children) The Bible says, "he careth for you" (1 Peter 5:7). The Lord died for everyone and wants them to be saved (1 Timothy 2:4). "Whosoever" means you in Romans 10:13. You may be saved when your are young (Proverbs 8:17; Jeremiah 29:13).
  • Have you trusted the Lord as Saviour? Have you talked to someone about trusting the Lord for salvation only to have that person turn you away? Why were you turned away?
  • Why is it important that children not be turned away when they are seeking the Lord? What should we do to help them better understand salvation without turning them away?

PRAYER NEEDS

  • Thank the Lord for caring for the little children.
  • Ask God to work in the hearts of the young ones in your family.
