The Character of a Steward - Titus 1:7

The Character of a Steward - Titus 1:7

INTRODUCTION

A steward must be a person of high moral character. This is demonstrated in the qualifications of a bishop. As a steward of God, he must not be selfwilled. He has to realize that his life and his possessions are not his own. In addition to this, he must not be easily distracted or overcome by anger, wine, fightings, or money. Each of these items effects an individual’s ability to think and act rationally. As a steward, a man must give himself to a high level of character and morality. After all, it is not his work or his possessions, but those of his master. As stewards of God, believers must not allow themselves to become distracted from the task at hand, properly caring for the things of God.

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS

  • (For smaller children) In the midst of an ungodly people, Noah's life was a good testimony. He preached to the people to get right with God all the while he was building the ark. He stayed true to God and saved his family (Genesis 6:5-9; Genesis 7:1-7).
  • What if you were hiring someone to care for your most prized possessions? For what kind of traits would you look? What would be the most important things to consider before making the hire?
  • What are some character flaws you have that might hinder you as a steward of God? What should you do to make those right?

PRAYER NEEDS

  • Ask the Lord to prepare you to be a better steward for Him.
  • Ask God to show you any areas in which you need to repent.
