The Desire to Please - 1 Thessalonians 2:4
See All...
INTRODUCTION
A good steward is known for a strong desire to please his master. He does not sit around worrying about how he can please other stewards, because at the end of the day, he is accountable only to his master. As long as his master is pleased, all other things will fall in line. So it is with the steward of God. It is not that he does not desire to please others, but that is far distant to his desire to please the Lord. As such, he would never allow his desire to please other men to conflict with his desire to please his Master. This is perhaps one of the greatest difficulties facing modern Christianity; men have much desire to please other men, but little desire to please the One that matters most.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) Jesus always pleased God (John 8:29And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.
See All...). Enoch had a testimony of pleasing God (Hebrews 11:5By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
See All...). It is our Christian duty (1 Thessalonians 4:1Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more.
See All...). As children, start by obeying your parents (Colossians 3:20Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.
See All...). - Is it unhealthy for children to desire to please their parents while they are young? Should they eventually come to a place where they do the right thing for other reasons? How is this like Christianity?
- Do you desire to please God? How will your desire to please Him also please the right kind of people?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask the Lord to strengthen your desire to please Him.
- Ask God to give you a deeper love for Him.
