They That Count It Pleasure - 2 Peter 2:12-13

They That Count It Pleasure - 2 Peter 2:12-13

INTRODUCTION

The source of a man’s pleasure speaks volumes about the condition of his heart. Some find pleasure in rioting, some in backbiting, some in carnality, and some in selfish indulgences. As these things become more amusing to the carnal Christian, he begins to do them in the open, or as the scripture saith, "in the day time." All these things point to a heart that is cold to the things of God, and warm to the things of the world. Instead, the people of God ought to find pleasure in spiritual things such as reading the Bible, talking with the Lord, singing His praises, fellowshipping with likeminded believers, and witnessing to others of His goodness.

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS

  • (For smaller children) We are supposed to love and please God (1 Thessalonians 4:1). Jesus did (John 8:29). With His help we can resist worldly pleasures (Galatians 5:24). But sadly, we don't choose His way (Isaiah 66:4) but have pleasure in doing wrong (2 Thessalonians 2:12b).
  • Would you rather read your Bible or your favorite novel? Would you rather sing about God or of worldly things? Do you find greater enjoyment speaking with God or gossiping with others?
  • How can one find pleasure in spiritual things? What can take Bible reading from boring to blessing? What can take singing from monotonous to an overflow of heart?

PRAYER NEEDS

  • Ask God to help spiritual things become pleasurable to you.
  • Thank God for His marvelous goodness to you.
