Tabernacle, Tent, and Covering

Published Date:

Exodus 35:11, in reference to the tabernacle, mentions the "tabernacle, his tent, and his covering." Though the terms are used in various ways, they have distinctive meanings in reference to the the structure of the tabernacle. The word tabernacle refers to the structure itself and has special reference to the wooden framework (Exodus 36:20). The word tent speaks of the curtains of goat hair that covered the tabernacle (Exodus 36:14). The coverings included, "a covering for the tent of rams' skins dyed red, and a covering of badgers' skins above that" (Exodus 36:19).
